Abstract

422,719. Toe-straps for cycle pedals. BRAMMER, H., Vesper Mount, Vesper Road, Kirkstall, Leeds. Aug. 31, 1933, No. 24151. [Class 136 (ii)] In a toe-strap for use with rubber pedals, integral or attached portions of the toe strap are adapted to be secured to a pedal by means of headed sleeves or studs, which are also adapted to secure the rubber block in position. Each end of the toe-strap 9 is apertured for the passage of an internally-threaded sleeve 6, Fig. 2, provided with a head 8 and adapted to engage the threaded end of the securing-pin 4 of the front rubber block 1. The strap is prevented from turning about the sleeves by means of hook members 10, Figs. 1 and 4, adapted to engage the lower edges of the end plates 3. The strap is also held by the engagement of a curved edge 11 with the spindle cap 12. An alternative retaining-means consists of a strap 13 mounted on the rear pin 4 or a sleeve such as 6 and secured at its upper end to the strap 9. In order to enable the strap 9 to be attached after the sleeve 6 is secured in position, the head 8 may be passed through a hole 16, Fig. 4, in the strap, and the sleeve then forced through a slit 15 into a smaller hole 14. The end of the strap may be stiffened by a fixed or detachable apertured metal plate having a hooked lower end to engage the end plate 3. A double toe-strap may be similarly mounted by sleeves 6 on both pins 4. In the form shown in Fig. 7, an extension plate 21 at each end of the strap 9 is provided with a hooked end 22 to engage the end plate, a hole 23 to engage the pin 4, and a slot 24, through which the end 26 of the strap is passed and secured by a headed stud 27, which is passed through a large hole 28 and is then forced through a slit 29 into a smaller hole. A beaded edge 25 prevents the strap being cut. In the case of a single-block rubber pedal, the headed sleeves engage pins &c. moulded or otherwise secured in the pedal rubber.
