Abstract

422,699. Confining &c. dust &c. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(International Cigar Machinery Co. ; 5520, 2nd Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A.) June 13, 1933, No. 16848. [Class 8 (ii)] [See also Groups VI and II] Rakes 17 mounted on a rotating shaft 18 agitate tobacco T or other material contained in a hopper 16, which is provided with perforated screens 16a, 16<b>, 16<c> and the dust and small particles are removed through the screens by suction transmitted through a pipe 33. An oscillatable transfer drum 15 is placed beneath the hopper 16 and contains a pan 29 which is reciprocated to receive a charge of tobacco or other material and transfer it to a measuring chamber. The pan 29 is carried by a forked lever 27 mounted on a shaft 28 and is actuated by levers extending through a slot 26 in the drum 15. To remove dust &c., from the pan 29 it is provided with a perforated false bottom 29<a> and a sloping portion 29d which periodically registers with a duct 34 in a spider 14, and as the drum 15 turns communication between the duct 34 and a tube 34, connected to the suction pipe 33, is cut off before the pan carries the tobacco or other material into the discharging position.
