Abstract

422,075. Handle-bars. LEWIS, W. J., 18A, Wycome Road, Hall Green, Birmingham. Oct. 5, 1933, No. 27380. [Class 136 (iii)] In means for detachably securing a handlebar to its stem, of the type in which a twopiece clamp or bracket engaging the handlebar is attached to the stem by means of the usual bolt which coacts with a tapered plug to secure the lower split end of the stem to the steering-column, the attachment bracket consists of two sheet-metal &c. halves 21, which are formed at one end with cylindrical portions 22 to be fixed to the stem 1 by the usual bolt 16, and at intermediate parts with transverse seatings 20 for the handle-bar 7, the other ends being formed with lugs 24, to receive a clamping-bolt 25. A projection 26 on the stem engages a slot 27 in the bracket to prevent relative rotation. The bracket is clamped to the slit upper end of the stem 1 by a conical plug 13 and the bolt 16. In a modification, the bracket is clamped to the stem by the bolt 16 without the use of a plug 13, the top edge of the stem being provided with an upstanding arcuate tongue engaging an arcuate slot in the upper half of the bracket.
