421,598. Explosives. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I., Wilmington, Delaware, U.S.A. June 24, 1933, No. 18076. Convention date, June 24, 1932. [Class 9 (ii)] An explosive composition of the character of gelatin dynamite is prepared by incorporating a gelatinized liquid ingredient with a vegetable pith of unrestricted absorptive capacity such as bagasse pith, pith of corn stalks or sunflower stalks, and others. The pith may be present in the amount of 0À5 to 15 per cent in the form of particles passing a 6-mesh screen and having a density not greater than 0À3, preferably between 0À and 0À3. The gelatinized liquid may be nitroglycerine-nitrocotton, and the explosive may contain additional ingredients such as dinitrotoluene, sodium and ammonium nitrates, ammonium chloride, starch, wood pulp, ivory nut meal, and chalk. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 375,824.
