[Class 108 (iii)] [See also Group XXI] The piston 44, Fig. 10, of a dashpot for slowing down the operation of a bomb-dropping device at certain positions is perforated and is mounted with a small play against a flange 43 on the piston rod 41, forming a valve, which opens and allows free return movement to the piston, but is closed during the forward stroke, the operation during this stroke being controlled by the flow of fluid through holes in the piston regulated by rods 47. These rods are made with enlargements 48 to check the flow and slow-down the movement at the desired positions.
