[Class 29] In a cooling system having a closed pipe system b filled with volatile liquid for transferring heat from the goods in chamber a to a chamber c containing a refrigerant such as solid carbon dioxide, the pressure in the pipe system is adjusted to equal the saturated vapour pressure of the volatile liquid at the temperature desired in the cooling chamber a. The pressure adjustment may be effected by placing the pipe system in a cooling chamber, filling it with the desired amount of volatile liquid, evacuating it with an air pump until a pressure gauge indicates that the desired pressure is reached, and then sealing off the pipe system. This process is intended to obviate the necessity for valves in the pipe system b to maintain the cooling chamber a at a desired temperature.
