[Classes 55 (i) and 55 (ii)] A homogeneous coke of relatively easy combustibility is obtained by coking in a fire brick chamber oven having walls not more than 350 m.m. apart and heated to between 600 and 750‹ C., (measured on the inner side of the walls) a mixture of raw coal and powdered coke or dull coal, or oxidized coal, or coal subjected to a previous heat treatment. Such addition which amounts from 25 to 50 per cent of the charge increases the heat conductivity and carbonization rate. The materials in a finely divided state are mixed prior to being charged into the oven the walls of which are uniformly heated.
