Abstract
420,608. Boot - making machines. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., Belgrave Road, Leicester.-(United Shoe Machinery Corporation; 140, Federal Street, Boston, U.S.A.) June 2, 1933, No. 15944. [Class 17 (i)] Treeing.-A shoe is made on a divided last and, for the treeing operation, the last forepart is retained in the shoe, an intermediate block being provided with engaging members cooperating with those on the dividing surface of the fore-part, the block being also formed with means for engaging the heel portion of the tree of the treeing machine. The engaging means are so constructed that, after treeing, the shoe can be removed, the last forepart remaining attached to the leg. The last used is of the kind divided on a plane inclined towards the heel end of the sole, the fore part carrying a plate having a slot 70 open at one end and a recess 67, these parts co-operating with a spring- pressed hook released by a member inserted in the last pin hole and a stud entering the recess 67, which hook and stud are mounted on the heel part of the last. The treeing foot is provided with parts for engagement with the last fore part and mounted on a block 54. A stud 74 co-operates with the recess 67, a headed stud 68 and stud 72 are substituted for the hook mentioned, an incline 73 allows relative tilt to allow the recess 67 to be engaged over the stud, and a plunger 66 engages an incline on a spring plunger 76 for preventing the tilt except when the plunger is depressed. The block is slotted at its rear side and provided with a cross bar 56 to engage a slide 58 to which the block is secured by a latch 59, the slide being normally retained by a latch 60 of the kind usually provided in treeing machines. The usual expanding bar 36 actuates a cam member 50 for expanding the foot lengthwise of the shoe, the remainder of the foot and the treeing machine being substantially as described in Specifications 6709 /85, 6710 /85, and 7974 /90, [all in Class 17]. In operation, when the shoe is ready for treeing, the heel part of the last is removed without disturbing the fore part. With the treeing foot extended as shown in Fig. 4, the fore part of the last is engaged on the block 54, the plunger 76 being depressed to permit the recess 67 being engaged over the projection 74. The shoe is then pushed inwardly to bring the heel part 30 into the shoe and the tree extended in the usual manner. The treeing can then proceed. When the operation is complete the leg is collapsed longitudinally of the shoe as usual and then extended at right angles to the shoe as shown in Fig. 4. The shoe may then be removed leaving the last fore part attached to the treeing leg.
