Abstract

A crusher head for homogenizing apparatus comprises a fixed member 3 of annular construction which operates in conjunction with a movable member or members arranged concentrically. The movable member consists of a closed tube 4<A> having at its open end a <PICT:0420437/III/1> thickened portion 4, bearing against the fixed member 3 to form a minute annular gap. The loading of the member 4 is obtained by means of a rod 5 under compression inside the tube 4<A>, and may be varied by means of a differential screw 15 acting on the end of the rod 5. A packing 12 and gland 13 prevent agress of fluid. A packing ring 8 is arranged between the member 4 and a thickened portion 9 of the rod 5 to prevent damage, and the portion 9 may have a slot 10 to prevent rotation of the rod. The fluid to be treated is forced past a relief valve 2 into the space 1 and is emulsified by passage through the gap 3, between members 3 and 4.
