Abstract
In the production of rubber and like articles with patterned surfaces by dipping, spreading, spraying or moulding from solutions with the aid of a patterned core of porcelain or like material, which is formed initially by moulding it in a master mould provided with a patterned interior, the necessity for engraving or cutting a separate master mould for each surface pattern on articles that are otherwise identical, is obviated by providing separate patterned sheets adapted to be selected and fixed at will in a common master mould. For example the master mould may be made of wood and have any one of a number of patterned vulcanized rubber sheets secured thereto by rubber solution, latex adhesives or the like. The insert may also be made of metal, leather, linoleum or the like. The rubber sheet may be patterned by vulcanizing it in contact with an engraved metal plate or by coating embossed paper or the like with rubber by dipping, spreading, spraying, or other methods. The invention is stated to be adapted for the manufacture of beach shoes, bathing-caps, tobacco-pouches, hand-bags, and various garments.
