Abstract

418,502. Pencils. BLACK, H. D., 39, St. James's Street, London, and PASSMAN, P. C., The Island, Uxbridge, Middlesex. June 7, 1934, No. 16944. [Class 146 (iii).] A writing pencil comprises a stick of graphite or the like of sufficient thickness to be held directly in the hand when writing, and upon the outer surface of which is deposited a coating of metal sufficiently ductile to permit it to be cut away when sharpening the pencil, but sufficiently thick to render the stick reasonably unbreakable, for example when dropped. The metal coating may be deposited either electrolytically or by spraying, and in the former case the graphite may bear on its surface a design &c. which is reproduced in the metal coating. The stick of writing material may be round, fluted, triangular, square, pentagonal &c., and the metal coating may be of copper, aluminium, nickel, &c. ; an initial deposit of copper may be obtained to facilitate the electrolytic deposition of any other suitable metal, such as chromium, and a final deposit of gold may be made. The sticks may be provided with holes or recesses to receive attachment rings or clips.
