Abstract

Granules or the like of caustic alkalies are obtained by causing melted caustic alkalies to fall in a thin stream through an indifferent gas from a height appropriate to allow the solidification thereof. The indifferent gas such as air may be passed in a cooled stream in counter-current to the falling alkali by supplying the gas under pressure at the foot of a tower, by drawing off the gas from the upper part of a tower or by employing a tower open at both ends to produce a natural current. The gas may be kept in circulation. The melted caustic alkali may fall from nozzles of nickel or silver.
