Abstract
417,368. Uniting by fusion. CARBA AKT.-GES., Lieberfeld, Berne, Switzerland.- (Assignees of Keel, C. ; Basle, Switzerland.) April 5, 1934, No. 10353. Convention date, Aug. 23, 1933. [Class 83 (iv).] In a handoperated apparatus for welding by means of a burner 2 and welding rod 11 carried on a frame, the burner is adjustably clamped in a crosshead 6 of the frame from which depend adjustable supports 12 for rollers 13 and to which are secured tubular guides 9 for two adjustable arms 8 extending on either side of the burner from a tubular holder 7 carrying the welding rod. The supports are adjustable through pins and elongated slots. The apparatus may be oscillated transversely about the centre of the cross frame during welding, the arc of oscillation being varied by shifting the cross head on the burner and the rods 8 in the tubes 9, according to the thickness of the plates and the distance apart of the edges 4, 5 to be welded. The inclination of the burner and rod may be varied during operation by tilting the frame on the rollers 13. In welding thin plates the apparatus is traversed in the direction of the arrow 14, but for thick plates in the direction of the arrow 17. The apparatus may also be used for welding circular seams.
