Abstract

417,053. Pipe joints. BAILEY, R. W., 20, Grange Avenue, Hale, Cheshire, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. March 22, 1933, No. 8688. [Class 99 (i).] To avoid unequal expansion in a flanged pipe joint due to high temperatures strips of heat-conducting material are interposed between the bolts or other securing means and the pipe walls or members in contact with the pipe walls. The strips may comprise U-shaped members 6 having surfaces 6<1>, 6<11> conforming to the shape of the bolts 4 and pipes 1. Alternatively a corrugated strip 10, Fig. 4, bears against the bolts and in a groove 11 in members 7 which are secured to the pipes and against which the loose flanges 8 bear. The heat-conducting members may comprise a strip 14, Fig. 6, bolted to the pipe and having offset projections 17 engaging a pair of bolts. The strips may be welded to the pipes and clamped to the bolts by screws.
