[Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iii).] Milling-cutters.-In type-bar matrices having a recess below the combination teeth, which serves as a lift-slot, the recess f, Figs. 5 and 6, is produced by a finger milling-tool, which is pressed against the side surface of the matrix in an inclined position, as shown in Fig. 4. The tool consists of a double conical sleeve a, provided with cutter-teeth b, c, and carried by a core d, which itself has cutter-teeth e at its upper end. The recess f and the undersides of the lowest pair g of the combination teeth are thereby formed at the same time. In a modification, the recess is first formed by a tool h, Fig. 8, having the same shape as the sleeve a, and the undersides of the lowest teeth are subsequently formed by a tool i, Fig. 9, having teeth e corresponding to those of the core d.
