416,567. Gear-changing mechanism. HUMFREY, J. C. W., HINGSTON, W. H., and ASSOCIATED TRANSMISSIONS, Ltd., 40, Grosvenor Gardens, London. Dec. 10, 1932, No. 35079. [Class 80 (ii).] In a gear-changing mechanism of the sliding gear or dog type in which the gearbox can be isolated at both ends or alternatively at the driving end with means for synchronizing the gears. A pre-selective gear-changing mechanism comprises a gear lever working in a gate which is connected to the operating part of the lever a by a spring or flexible coupling. The operating part a of the lever is held by the engagement of a pin a<0> with stops or pawls b and c irrespective of the position of the lever in the gate. The pawls band c are connected to the clutch or a similar control by a rod e and are raised on the operation of the clutch to release the lever a which operates the selector rods under the tension of the coupling spring as determined by the position of the selecting lever in the gate. In a modification, the end of the gear lever is formed as a cam which on movement energizes a spring-pressed plunger engaging with the selector forks, the selector forks being held by stops engaging in notches until released by operation of the clutch or other pedal.
