Abstract

416,144. Rubber threads. McKAY, R. F., Fort Dunlop, Birmingham.-(International Latex Processes, Ltd.; 10, Lefebvre Street, St. Peter's Port, Guernsey.) May 30, 1933, No. 15560. [Class 70.] Threads are made by applying a liquid containing rubber or the like, such as an aqueous dispersion or a solution, to a travelling edge surface, converting it into solid rubber, and continuously removing it. Discs 10 on a roller 11 dip a predetermined depth into latex &c. in a tray 17 fed by a siphon 20 and maintained at a constant level by an overflow 22. The latex is dried by a heater 21, and the U-shaped strips of rubber formed are drawn off by a roller 23, passed between compacting rolls 25, and carried on a conveyer 26 through a vulcanizer 27, whence the threads are passed through a talcer 29 to a batch-roll 30. In modifications the edges of the discs are supplied with liquid by a roll which dips into a trough : the discs may be replaced by a belt with longitudinal ridges which pick up a film from a roller : or the lower edge of an endless tape passing round horizontal sheaves may be drawn across the surface of latex &c. in a trough, and the rubber solidified, vulcanized &c. as above.
