Abstract
764,190. Mica sheets. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. April 1, 1955 [April 2, 1954], No. 9736/54. Class 70. Apparatus for producing a continuous sheet of integrated mica from a liquid having mica in suspension comprises a liquid container, an endless belt arranged to travel partly submerged beneath liquid in said container, and upon which mica particles may settle to form a sheet, to be retained in position as the sheet is carried out of the liquid, by causing them to be sandwiched between the belt and a member having a surface moving adjacent to a part of the surface of the belt in the same direction and at the same speed as the latter. A travelling belt 3 during its passage through liquid in a container 4 collects a deposit of mica particles from a suspension of the latter in water or other liquid supplied via a conduit 1 and a vertical shoot 2. An overflow weir 5 ensures that a constant liquid level is maintained in the con. tainer 4. Before the mica deposit on the belt 3 reaches the surface of the liquid it is carried into contact with the surface of a belt 11 moving adjacent to and in the same direction as the upper surface of the belt 3. Light pressure rolls 13 effect a slight calendering of the mica sheet as it passes between the belts 3, 11. A suction box 14 reduces the tendency of the mica sheet to adhere to the belt 11, and also removes liquid. Further liquid is removed by suction boxes 15, and a heated roll 10 before, the'mica sheet 16 is withdrawn from the belt 3. The belt 11 may be coated with or formed of a water-repellant material such as nylon.
