Abstract

<PICT:0415899/III/1> A saturator for producing crystals of ammonium sulphate comprises a vessel having a conical lower part, an upwardly directed ejector disposed near the bottom of the vessel in the conical part, a supply pipe for introducing the gaseous reagent into the ejector and a pipe passing upwardly from the ejector and having outlet means adapted to discharge tangentially to the wall of the vessel and at a higher level than the ejector. According to a modification a number of ejectors are disposed in series at different levels and are arranged tangentially adjacent the wall of the saturator, a part of the mixture of liquid and gas issuing from a given ejector imparting rotation to the liquid whilst the remainder ascends into the next following ejector. An ejector 4 is disposed in a conical lower part 2 of a saturator 1 and is supplied with gas by a tube 6, the extremity 5 of which co-operates with the ejector. The ejector 4 is prolonged by a curved part 7 disposed tangentially to the wall of the part 2 and opening at a higher level beneath a second ejector 8 which is itself provided with a delivery tube 9 opening beneath a third ejector 10. The ejector 10 is prolonged by a curved hood 11 open in its lower part. The part 7 is so disposed relative to the ejector 8 that part of the liquid stream issuing therefrom passes into the ejector whilst the rest misses the ejector and is utilized in setting the mass of liquid in the saturator into rotation. The action of that part of the stream entering into the ejectors may be assisted by the injection of fresh gas through pipes such as the pipe 14. The apparatus may be provided with only one ejector, such as the ejector 4 co-operating with the pipe 5, the liquid being projected by the curved part 7 tangentially towards the conical wall 2.
