Abstract
415,702. Sliding - clasp fasteners. LIGHTNING FASTENERS, Ltd., Imperial Chemical House, Millbank, London.-(Hookless Fastner Co. ; Meadville, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) Jan. 26, 1933, No. 2563. [Class 44.] In making sliding-clasp fasteners, the fastener elements are punched out from strip material, temporarily connected in pairs to form members having a length to width ratio of 1À75 to 1, to 4 to 1, and preferably 2 to 1, and the pairs of elements are then sorted, orientated and fed to a collecting and clamping device which separates the elements and applies them to the tapes. A strip 25 is fed intermittently to a press with a reciprocating head 27 and a fixed die 26. A punch 29 cuts the parts 28, and a punch 34. embosses the portion 17 and forms the faces 18 A punch 39 forms the hole 41 and a spring- ejector replaces the wad in the hole. A punch 47 severs the pairs from the strip and divides them into members comprising two elements temporarily joined by the wads. The members are smoothed in a tumbling barrel and placed in a hopper 50 from which they fall to an inclined tray 51. A bar 52 traps those members which are face downwards and broadside on. Other members are caught in a tray 51<a> and are resorted. Orientated members are fed from a shoot 53 to notches 55a in wheels 55. A stationary rod ejects the wads to separate the elements which are carried to straddle tapes 10. Rollers 62 secure the elements to the tapes. Specification 384,705 is referred to.
