415,403. Thermionic valve generators. BAKER, G. B., Priests Hill, Nettlebed, Henley-on-Thames. Feb. 22, 1933, No. 5372. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v).] An oscillation generator of the dynatron type consists of a valve with a cathode K and at least two further electrodes such as plate-shaped anodes A<1>, A2, a tuned circuit or other frequency determining means being connected to one A<1> of the anodes, which is maintained at such a potential that it emits secondary electrons which are collected by the other anode A<2>, the arrangement being such that the anode A<2> is outside the path between the cathode and the anode A<1>; preferably a magnetic or other field causes the electron stream from the cathode to pass to the anode A'. A grid G, maintained at a negative potential so as to produce a space charge, may be mounted near the cathode. The valve parameters are preferably such that the secondary emission from the anode A<1> is equal to the current to that anode when the oscillator is operating at the middle of the negative resistance portion of its characteristic curve. The value of the negative resistance may be varied by adjusting the potential of the anode A<2> or the grid.
