Abstract

414,878. Saddles. BROOKS & CO., Ltd., J. B., and ASHEN, F. C., Great Charles Street, Birmingham. June 13, 1933, No. 16832. [Class 136 (iii).] An underframe for a cycle saddle comprises a longitudinal base part and a separate end part, such as the back plate or the peak fitting, cast directly upon an end of the base part ; or both end parts may be cast directly upon the ends of the base part. As shown, a back plate 7 is cast with deep bosses 8 near its ends surrounding the upturned ends 6 of the base part 2, the ends 6 being indented &c. at 9 to key with the casting. The base part 2 may be formed of two separate side members, or of a single length of stout wire or strip bent to form an upturned loop or arch at the peak, and the peak fitting may be cast on, or may consist of a sheet-metal pressing of channel form, the top of the channel being extended rearwards to form a flange which is pierced to receive the hooked ends of top springs 1. A wire 15 may be cast in the rounded front edge 13 of the back plate, the edge 13 being formed with spaced gaps to expose the wire 15 for the reception of the hooked ends of the springs 1. The springs may be attached to the peak in a similar manner.
