Abstract
414,828. Horseshoes. PHILLIPS RUBBER SOLES, Ltd., and EYLES, G. F., 250, Western Avenue, Acton, London. April 1, 1933, No. 9874. [Class 67.] In a shoe composed of rubber or like material moulded around a metallic base, the base comprises a single metal plate 2 formed by press - ing or stamping with one or more longitudinal ribs 3 to give rigidity while allowing the shoe to be bent laterally to fit the hoof. To facilitate bending, a number of open-ended slots 4 may be provided at the outside of the plate, as shown in Fig. 2, or at the inside or both. The upper and lower layers of rubber are interconnected through holes 6 in the rib 3. One or more clips 5 bent upwardly from the plate and strengthened by fluting may be provided at or near the toe. Instead of the slots 4, the plate may be formed at the outer edge with a series of downward recesses 8, as shown in Fig. 6, in which the nail holes 7 may be located. The plate may be provided at the toe with a downward extension which may or may not extend to the ground surface to resist wear, and the shoe as a whole may be curved slightly upwardly at the front as shown in Fig. 10 to present a convex surface to the ground. A heel-bar may be employed to retain the limbs in position.
