Abstract

248,242. Steadman, J. B., and Derham Bros., Ltd. July 4, 1925. Construction of boots and shoes; soles.-A boot, shoe or the like of the type having a sole with an upstanding edge to which the upper is attached, is now provided with a specially formed or moulded upstanding edge c, Fig. 1, to which the upper is laced. A flat piece of leather is welted and attached to a last a, Fig. 1, by tacks b driven into the side of the last. The sole is then, dried and rolled, preferably in a machine, to conform the sole to the last. Holes are punched in the edge f, Fig. 3, and the upper is laced, preferably by hand, with the shoe off the last. In the form illustrated the vamp h of the shoe is made of plaited leather strips. In a modification, the upper is attached to the sole before it is moulded. The shoe is then pulled over a last and conformed thereto.
