Abstract

414,290. Stud fastenings. DZUS, W., Hawley Street, West Islip, New York, U.S.A. Jan. 1, 1934, No. 59. [Class 44.] For fastening together two plates, e.g. parts of an aircraft cowling or a motor car number plate and a bracket, a stud-like member 12 is rotatably mounted in the upper plate 10 and is provided with a tubular shank 13 having bayonet slots 16 which receive a wire 22 resiliently mounted by its coiled ends 23 encircling studs 24 projecting from the underside of the lower plate 11 so as to extend across a circular opening 25 in the plate 11. The entrance part of each slot is helical with respect to the axis of the stud and a projection 17 is provided at the junction of the entrance and lateral parts of each slot to prevent accidental disengagement of the fastener. The stud 13 is formed with a head 14, having a notch to receive a screw-driver, and with a groove 19 in which the plate 10 or a reinforcement 20 engages to rotatably support the stud in the plate 10. Felt &c. 26 may be placed between the plates 10, 11.
