Abstract
413,472. Aircraft-float suspensions. MESSIER, Y. L., 179, Boulevard Brune, Paris. May 11, 1933, No. 13746. Convention date, May 14, 1932. [Class 4.] The floats of a seaplane are connected to the plane or fuselage at the front and rear by shook-absorbers which may be of the kind described in Specifications 321,035, [Class 108 (iii)], and 341,779, [Group XXXII]. One shock-absorber A<v>, Fig. 1, may have one part fixed to the machine or to the float and the other part t pivoted about a transverse axis 2 on the float or machine, a stay B bracing the shockabsorber longitudinally. The other shockabsorber A<@> may be pivoted at both ends 3, 4 and stayed laterally by inclined stays C<1> hinged about pivots coaxial with the pivot 3, or it may be fixed at one end and be provided with a sliding connection at the other. The shockabsorbers may be forwardly inclined instead of vertical. To meet longitudinal shocks, both members A<v>, A<r> may be pivoted and a third inclined shock-absorber A<m>, Fig. 5, provided. This member A<m> may be replaced by or combined with screw-gear for raising and lowering the float. For meeting lateral shocks the part t may be pivoted as shown in Fig. 6, and the rocking motion controlled by springs r. Two long stroke shock-absorbers designed to offer more resistance to opposite than to similar displacements are shown in Fig. 8. The spaces g above the liquid are filled with compressed gas and the spaces above and below the pistons are cross-connected as shown. Variations in volume due to the piston rods t effect the compression of the gas in the spaces g. Pairs of shock-absorbers side by side may be used at the front and rear of each float.
