Abstract
412,028. Mould materials. KODAK, Ltd., Kingsway, London.-(Assignees of Murray, A. ; Kodak Park, Rochester, New York, U.S.A.) May 11, 1933, No. 13689. Convention date, May 11, 1932. [Class 83 (i).] In the process of preparing casts in easily fusible alloys from gelatin moulds especially heat-developed gelatin moulds as described in Specification 390,881, [Group XX], the mould is coated just prior to casting with an organic ester or an aromatic aldehyde of high boiling point, capable of cleaning the surface of the alloy which may be oxidized. The process may be used for producing half-tone printing surfaces. Examples are given of the use of (1) iso-amyl phthalate ; (2) a solution of anisic acid in anisaldehyde; (3) a mixture of n-butyl phthalate and salicylic acid ; (4) a mixture of quinoline, cinnamic acid, and benzene ; and (5) a mixture of iso-propyl lactate and phthalic acid. Cinnam-aldehyde and decahydronaphthalene are also suitable. The liquid is applied on a piece of cotton and the excess wiped away. In the case of anisaldehyde, the surface is first rubbed with aluminium bronze powder or graphite. The alloy used may comprise antimony, tin, lead, and bismuth.
