Abstract
411,796. Discharge apparatus. COSSOR, Ltd., A. C., Highbury Grove, London. -(Assignees of Ardenne, Manfred, Baron von ; 19, Jungfernstieg, Lichterfelde-Ost, Berlin.) Feb. 19, 1934, No. 5450. Convention date, Feb. 17, 1933. [Class 39 (i).] The frame for supporting the electrodes is made of hollow glass tubes which are attached to the pinch by melting their ends during the heating of the glass for the formation of the pinch so that a glass ball is formed at the end of each of the tubes, which ball is pinched into the pinch. In one form, Fig. 1, a cathode-ray tube comprises a pinch k and an electrode supporting frame consisting of glass tubes r. The deflector plates P<1>, <p>2, are fused onto the upper ends of tubes r, and the anode a is secured to them by a spring ring. A second pair of deflector plates p<3> is mounted on the anode a by glass tubes. The glass tubes r are softened at the ends and balls g, which are sealed into the pinch k when this is made, are formed. The tubes r are sealed in at a distance of not less than 5 mm. from the ends of the pinch to give greater lateral strength and to permit of the low potential leads being taken through the pinch inside the rods while the high potential leads are taken outside. The electrode leads to the plates P<1> and p<2> are brought down inside the tubes r as shown.
