Abstract

411,679. Totalizators. FLANAGAN, H. T., and FLANAGAN, H. T., Exchange Building, Ballard Estate, Fort, Bombay, India. June 7, 1933, No. 16368. [Class 106 (i).] The manual operation of a ticket-issuing apparatus completes a circuit to a ball-dropping arrangement and to a magnet which then releases the ticket-issuing pusher for effective movement under the action of a spring to eject the ticket. Ticket-issuing apparatus. The ticket receptacle 1 is closed at the front by a door 2 hinged at 3 to a plate 4 capable of vertical adjustment by means of a knob 11 to vary the height of the slot 8 between a spring lip 9 on the door and the base of the ticket receptacle. The tickets are propelled through the slot singly by a spring- controlled pusher 14 retracted by a lever 18 under control of a plunger 21. The lever is held in operated position by a trigger 24 until this is rocked by an arm 27 on a shaft 28 oscillated by connection through a rod 30 with the armature of an electromagnet 32. When fully pushed back the pusher closes contacts at 35, 36 in circuit with the magnet 32 and also with a ball-dropping magnet at the central station. The magnet 32 and shaft 28 may be common to a group of ticket machines. To prevent operation in the absence of tickets the pusher is locked by a detent 47 unless disabled by the presence of a ticket. Ball-dropping apparatus. The balls are contained in a tube 50, Fig. 4, and are released one or more at a time by a star-wheel 53 under the control of an escape wheel 59 the escapement lever 65 of which is rocked by a lever 61 operated by the magnet 69 in circuit with the contacts 35, 36, &c. as stated above. The wheel 59 tends always to rotate under a frictional drive from a shaft 70 which may be common to a number of ball-dropping devices.
