[Class 83 (iv).] The stepped drums 1, 2 of a wire drawing machine are rotated in opposite directions, the adjacent runs of wire crossing each other approximately midway between the pulleys, and the dies 5 being mounted in a single die box or carrier. Die-holders 7, Fig. 4, are integral with extensions 8 which pass through lugs 9<a>, 9<b> of pipe clips 9 on a tubular member 11. A screw-threaded portion 8<a> engaging the lug 9<a> is provided on the extension 8 to permit vertical and angular adjustment of the die, and the clips 9 may be adjusted angularly and longitudinally on the tube 11. Lubricant is supplied to the wire under a constant head through the tube 11, orifices 11<a>, and slots 19, or it may be forced under pressure into the tube 11 and through the orifices forcibly into the die mouths, and may also be discharged on the drums. To prevent grooving of the drums the dies with their supports 9, 11 may be reciprocated with constant velocity from a cam 23, Fig. 7, through a follower 26, arm 25, 25<a>, adjustable screwed member 27, thrust-rod 30, and a plate 33, which carries a guide pin 34. A spring 38 ensures the engagement of the members of the mechanism, and a further spring effects the return movement. A bearing 43, Fig. 1, prevents vibration or whipping, and permits the reciprocation of the dies and supports.
