Abstract
411,553. Opening or scutching cotton &c. NEWELL, W., TOMLINSON, H., and TWEEDALES & SMALLEY (1920), Ltd., Globe Works, Castleton, near Manchester. Dec. 17, 1932, No. 35793. [Class 120 (i).] In a machine for opening or scutching cotton or other fibrous material and of the type having a spiked porcupine cylinder or bladed beater 3 revolving in a casing 18 composed of cleaning or beater bars encircling the beater for more than half its circumference, the bars are separated into two sections 4, 4<a> by a plate 4<b> arranged directly below the beater axle 3<a>. The waste material drops through the bars 4, 4<a> on to a conveyer apron 6 in the dirt chamber 5 and is carried thereby to a box 11, a brush 12 being provided to clean the conveyer 6. If desired the waste material may be delivered by suction to a perforated revolving cage for further cleaning, while the conveyer 6 may be dispensed with and the waste collected on sheet metal plates 13 and removed from the machine through apertures 14 having closing panels 15. Adjustable air inlets 16 are provided in the framing while a stripping roller 19 having flexible leather blades 19<a> is provided at the entrance to the delivery passage 17 leading to the dust cages 20, 21. The floor of the passage 17 is formed of bars 22 and a dust chamber 23 is arranged therebeneath, the waste collecting on the transverse plate 24.
