Abstract

298,525. Newell, W., and Brooks & Doxey (1920), Ltd. July 9, 1927. Openers &c.-In a machine for opening and cleaning cotton, the outlet 9 for the cleaned cotton is adjacent to the feed inlet 8 and the grid 10 covers more than half the periphery of the cylinder 7. A casing 11 surrounds the grid and is provided in the end walls with regulatable air inlets 16, through which air is drawn by the suction through the outlet 9. This current of air carries back into the main stream fibres which have passed between the bars of the grid. The dirt falls down into the bottom of the casing 11 and is removed by a worm 14 or other means. The grid bars may be adjustable as to their inclination. The cylinder 7 is of sheet steel and is provided with duplex teeth 17 secured by shallow headed bolts held by lock nuts and spring washers.
