Abstract

411,287. Impulse transmitters. BOYE, A., 141, Avenue Malakoff, Paris. June 2,1933, No. 16050. Convention date, June 4, 1932. [Class 40 (iv).] In apparatus in which a series of disc members, each representing a particular subscriber, are selectively associated with a pair of contacts in such a way that a continuous stream of impulses is split up into the required series of digits, the discs are in the form of rectangular plates 25 sliding into grooves in a box member 27, each plate having a central circular aperture with internal teeth 25b and an opening 30 leading from the aperture to one edge of the plate, so that the box may be interchangeably threaded on to the spindle 7 which carries the interrupter drum 13 and the adjustable slider 39. Spring clips 32 on the motor casing C hold the box 27 in position and a cap member 35 is fitted to the other end of the spindle, this cap having a groove 37 in which any additional disc member may be inserted as required. The discs have obliquelybent lugs 29 which after insertion lock into grooves 28 in the box 27. The drum 13 is keyed to the spindle 7 and contains a finger 14 controlling springs 15 which normally shortcircuit the main impulse contacts 5 and a second pair of springs 16 controlling a shortcircuit around the subscriber's instruments, the springs 15, 16 being operated by the finger in accordance with the disposition of the teeth 25<b>. The springs 15, 16 engage slidably with bars 9, 10, which rotate with the spindle 7 and wipe over commutator segments 17, 18. The spring motor is wound for each operation by depressing the handle 2, this movement also removing a pin from a wheel 44 and a stop from the impulse cam 4. The slider 39 is operatively associated with the drum 13 by a fork member 31<a> embracing the drum and engaging a groove 13<2>. The apparatus is associated with the conductors 23, 24 to the telephone set by a four-element plug-coupling arranged so that when the plug is inserted, pins c engaging in grooves d lift the spring members a free of a bar e which normally short-circuits conductors 23. In a modification, Fig. 6, the springs 15, 16 are fixed and are operated by a small longitudinal movement of a hollow member 48 due to the engagement of the oblique end of the finger 56 with a notch 48<1> each time the other end of the finger engages a tooth 25b. The finger is carried by a sleeve 52 slidable on the member 48 by means of a fork engaging groove 53 as in Figs. 1 and 2, but rotatable with the spindle 7 by means of a coupling pin 54. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also an apparatus having only a single groove into which any one of a series of discs may be inserted as required. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
