409,944. Arc - rupturing in switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Normann, A. G. von; 303, West Hudson Street, Seattle, Washington, U.S.A.) July 27, 1933, No. 21172. Convention date, July 27, 1932. [Class 38 (v).] An arc - extinguishing device for use with a switch having a friction clip 11 arranged to receive a switch blade 14 comprises two arcextinguishing blocks 15, 16 of insulating material disposed on opposite sides of the clip 11 and recessed to fit over and enclose the clip, spring means such as a spring clip 27 being provided to press the blocks together. On closing the switch, the blade 14 engages inclined surfaces 21 on the blocks and forces the latter apart. When the blade is withdrawn, the blocks snap together under the action of the spring clip 27 and extinguish the arc. In a modification, the arc-extinguishing blocks are of elongated form so as to enclose two or more switch clips. Specifications 3805/98 and 23491/00, [both in Class 38], are referred to.
