Abstract
409,884. Looms for weaving tufted pile fabrics. STEVENS, A. H., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.-(Bigelow- Sanford Carpet Co., Inc. ; Thompsonville, Connecticut, U.S.A.) March 25, 1933, No. 9097. [Class 142 (ii).] An Axminster loom is provided with means for suspending the feeding movement of the tuft yarn frame carrier at predetermined intervals so that wiping-in mechanism may wipe-in yarns from the same tube frame a plurality of times, the action of the cloth take-up being modified during such successive wiping-in operations. A number of tuft yarn tube frames 13, Fig. 3, carried by a chain 10, are normally presented in turn to the wiping-in mechanism by a two stage movement of a ratchet 14 and sprocket 11 produced by pawls 15, 16, the supporting levers of which are connected by links 20 to a cam operated rocking lever 22. On detachment from the carrier each tube frame is supported by the usual wiping-in mechanism comprising cam operated members 31 and interlocking members 36 and is rocked by cam operated links 37. Shearing blades 43, 45 supported by members 42, 44 respectively are moved towards or away from each other by link connections from cam operated levers, the blade carriers being supported intermediate of their ends by guides 50, 57 which are adjustably supported on frame extensions 48, 64 respectively. The short fibres depending from the ends of the tufts after cutting are removed by the sweeping action of a comb 85 positioned above and supported by the cutting blade 43. Temporary stoppage of the chain 10, to permit repeated action on the same tube frame by the wiping- in mechanism, is effected by a pattern chain 65 which, on being advanced to bring a peg 68 beneath an adjustable projection 69 on the lever 22, limits the movement of the latter and prevents effective operation of the pawls 15, 16. The pattern chain operating pawl 71 may be rendered inoperative by interlocking a hand piece 71<b> at the end of connecting link 71<a> with a hook 71<c>. Take-up mechanism.-When the selecting or pattern mechanism calls for repeated wiping-in action on any tube frame, a stop 130, Fig. 9, having a link connection 122 with the lever 22, is allowed to restrict the normal traverse of a cam operated lever 114 and reduce the speed of the take-up roll 103 which is normally driven by a pawl and ratchet driven shaft 107 and connections 112, 114 from a cam 118. U.S.A. Specification 1,822,478 is referred to.
