Abstract
352,573. Pile fabric looms. SOUTHWELL, Ltd., H. & M., The Friars, and HEAD, T. W.; 39, Whitburn Street, both in Bridgnorth, Shropshire. April 22, 1930, No. 12360. [Class 142 (ii).] In looms for weaving Axminster carpets &c. having tuft-yarn spool and tube carrier frames extending across the entire width of a wide fabric, as described for example in Specification 293,513, [Class 142 (ii), Looms, Kinds &c.], the frame is given additional support when in operative position by regulating arms 1 situated at intermediate.points between the usual transferring arms, not shown, which take successive tube frames 22 and spools from the carrier chains to transfer position and then return them to the chains. The arms 1 are supported independently of the transferring arms by a roller 17 on which they can pivot and also slide, and are acted upon by springs 10 and adjustable rollers 9 on arms 8 on a cam shaft 4, which is rocked by a lever 6 and link 7. One or more levers 11 for each arm 1 dependent from the shaft are connected to the arm by pin-and-slot arrangements and links 13 furnished with springs 15 adjusted by nuts 16. A tube frame is first moved downwards until the tube ends 29 pass into the fabric backing, next it is raised as shown and at this time the arms 1 are slid forwards so that adjustable fingers 20 pass through loops 21 on the tube frame. A slight depressing of the rollers 9 then causes the arms 1 to be slightly lifted whereby the tube frame 22 is regulated to cause an equal length of threads 27 to be left below the warp threads throughout the whole width of the fabric. These lengths are then bound in by weft previous to heating up and actuation of the looping devices 33. The tube frame 27 is then raised to cause equal lengths of threads to be drawn out before being severed by the knives 26, 34, the arms 1 having been slightly raised by coaction between swells 23 thereon and runners 24 on the knife-supporting block. Afterwards the arms 1 are withdrawn backwards from the tube frame 22, which is then replaced in its carrier frame by the transferring arms.
