409,597. Enamels and glazes. KREIDL, I., 5, Sebastian Kohlgasse, Vienna. Oct. 31, 1933, No. 30223. Convention date, Nov. 28, 1932. [Class 56.] Relates to the production of white enamels and glazes in which gas-clouding agents are used in conjunction with enamel frits which are colloidal in the slip, as described in Specifications 375,670, 375,672, 375,673, and 375,674. Such frits are liable to become dimmed during firing, and the present invention consists in overcoming this drawback by adding to the slip substances which bring about a partial conversion of those salts in the slip which favour the water-combining power of the clay. Suitable substances for the purpose are hydrochloric acid or compounds which yield hydrochloric acid, preferably chlorides of volatile bases, such as ammonium chloride. Examples of suitable mixtures are given in the Specification.
