Abstract

409,552. Coin-freed articledelivery apparatus. HARPER, P. S., Adelaide House, Ashurst Walk, and CALDWELL, T. F., 87, Wellesley Road, both in Croydon. Aug. 21, 1933, No. 23259. [Class 27.] Relates to multiple coin-freed vending apparatus having a number of delivery drawers &c. under the control of a single coin-releasing mechanism, and provided with interlocking gear so that only one selected drawer can be opened at a time, such gear comprising a plurality of aligned bars, balls &c. which are divided or split apart by the wedge-like action of a " splitter " element associated with each drawer. According to the invention, two built-up locking members 3, 4, Figs. 2 and 3, composed of chamfered bars, aligned balls &c. are provided and disposed in conjunction with pivoted splitters 7, 8 whereby the first part of the pivotal movement of a splitter brings its splitting edge 11 into engagement with one sectional locking bar 4 and continued movement brings it into engagement with the second locking bar 3. The balls 3, 4 are housed in right-angular ribs 2 carried by a top plate 1, the splitters being pivoted at 5 in the housing frame. The arms 7 of the splitters are connected by wires 9 to the drawers &c., the arms 8 being provided with knife edges 11 for co-operation with the balls 3, 4. Springs 10 hold the splitters in normal disengaged position. The interlocking mechanism is a self-contained unit which may be disposed in the machine away from the drawers &c. Specification 394,283 is referred to. Coin action, mechanical - connection.-The splitters cannot enter between the balls 3 unless a coin is present in a pocket 17. The balls 3 are normally prevented from moving by the arm 13 of a bell-crank lever 13, 14, the arm 14 of which is pivoted to and actuates a sliding catch 15. If there is no coin, the catch engages a shoulder 18 and prevents movement of the arm 13. When a coin is present, a ramp 16 on the catch engages the edge of the coin so as to lift the catch from the shoulder 18. The coin is supported on a platform 20 carried by the catch, and falls when the catch is moved.
