Abstract
409,185. Shaping capsules. BRUUN, O. J., 25, Kongensvej, Frederiksberg, near Copenhagen. Aug. 15, 1933, No. 22762. [Class 100 (ii).] In a machine for making corrugated metal-foil capsules of the kind in which a fluted plunger 7 encircled by a resiliently-supported fluted annular piston or pistons 8, 8<1> cooperates with a fluted funnel-sliaped die so that the pistons are moved backwardly against increasing spring- pressure as the piston and die are moved relatively to one another, each piston 8, 8<1> is capable of tilting from a normal coaxial position with respect to the plunger as a result of unevenly applied pressure. The plunger 7 is attached by a stud 18 and nut 20 to a base member 16 secured to the fixed casing 9, a rubber ring 21 and a hemispherical block 22 being fitted between the parts 7, 16 so as to enable the plunger 7 to yield and cause the pressure to be applied evenly. As an alternative, a rubber washer may be inserted between the base 16 and the casing 9. Each piston is supported by three equidistant rods, those 28 for the piston 8 passing through holes in the casing 9 and bearing against a plate 42 loosely mounted on a rod 41 carrying an adjustable spring 44 pressing against the plate. By means of nuts 36, 37, the rods 28 and therefore the piston 8 may be adjusted. The rods 28<1> supporting the piston 8<1> bear against adjustable springs 39 in casings 38 and are adjusted by nuts 36<1>, 37<1> and a stud 40. The outer end 29 of each rod 28, 28<1> is reduced to pass through a hole 30 of larger size in the corresponding piston. A pin 32 and spring-washer 34 on opposite faces of each piston connect the rods loosely to the pistons so as to allow the pistons to tilt slightly, the pistons being spaced as shown at 23, 24, 25, 25<1> to permit of the tilting. An annular knife 11 is secured to casing 9 by bolt-and-slot connections 46, 47 and is adjusted by three radial set-screws 45. The material may be fed by a pair of rollers one of which may have a finely grained or fluted surface. Either the plunger or the die may be movable, the other part being fixed.
