Abstract
408,960. Crucible furnaces. TIMMINS, D., Windsor House, Brook Road, Fishponds, Bristol. Oct. 17, 1932, No. 28923. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii).] A crucible furnace built up of superposed cylindrical sections c, d, e having registering lugs y through which securing bolts are passed, is provided with a removable cover f fitted with wheels f<1>, f<2> adapted to run on a trackway g which is bolted to the section e and formed with two pairs of recesses g<1> to receive the wheels f<1>. The section e is formed with a projection 10 having an inclined upper face down which slides a nose 11 on the cover when the latter is raised, by a tool inserted in the lug 13, to free the wheels f from the recesses g<1>. The ashpit l is closed by a domed bottom-plate r which guides the ashes towards the periphery of the furnace and directs the combustion air, supplied by a fan b, to ports j<1> of which the outer ones deliver to tuyere blocks j<2>, Fig. 5, having discharge tubes j<3> projecting inwardly through the refractory lining o. The entire structure is mounted on a wheeled base-plate a.
