Abstract

408,227. Changing signs. KEHRMANN, H., 32, Avenue Belle Vue, Nice, France. July 30, 1932, No. 21531. [Class 3 (i).] A display band 3 is wound step-by-step from a roller 9 on to a friction disc driven roller 11, and returns either in one movement or step-bystep. A flexible shutter 2 is wound on and off an upper roller 40 and a lower spring roller to conceal the band 3 when moving. An endless translucent colour filter 4 is kept in continuous motion to produce colour effects on the band 3 by transmitted natural or artificial light. The mechanism for effecting the intermittent movement of the band 3 consists of a pivoted pawl 19 pressed against the band 3 by a counterweight 20<1> and by a spring 23 acting through a rod 21. Spaced openings 181 in the band margin allow the pawl 19 to move into engagement with the band, which drags the pawl down and allows a spring-pressed brake 25 to engage the roller 9 and stop the band. A cam 28 on a spindle 8 geared to the driving shaft 6 releases the brake 25 after an interval of time and allows the band 3 to proceed ; a disc 29 on the spindle 8 carries pins 30 which move the rod 21 to withdraw the pawl 19 from the band openings. At the end of the wind a cam 35 on a subsidiary spindle 38 pushes a rod 34 to engage by a clutch the roller 9 with its shaft 10 and to wind the band 3 back on to the roller 9. The shutter 2 is drawn up after each movement of the band 3 by a clutch actuated by a cam 39 on the spindle 8 and is held against movement during the reversal of the band 3 by a clutch rod 341 engaging the rod 34. Magnetic clutches may be employed, or the band 3 may be wound up by reversing the motor.
