Abstract

408,225. Insulators. ROST, H., P.O. Box 1815, Mexico City. Sept. 29, 1932, No. 20638/31. [Class 36.] An insulator comprising a shell adapted for attachment to a support and having one or more skirts is made of a synthetic thermoplastic organic compound containing plasticizers but which does not contain hydroxyl or which has had part of its hydroxyl removed, such compound consisting, for instance, of polymerization products of acetylene, acrylic acid, styrol, vinyl ethers, vegetable oils, cyclic ketones or methylated ketones ; or of condensation products of the above polymerized materials with an aldehyde. The insulators may be moulded in one piece or may consist of several separate parts which are secured together by the application of a solvent. Fig. 1 shows a supporting insulator mounted on a screw-threaded pin 11 and comprising thin shells A, B, C which are cemented together at 9, 10, 12. The conductor to be supported is carried in a groove 7 in the shell C. In other constructions the lower part of the shell C may have a metallic coating or may connect with the skirt 5 of the shell A, or the shells B, C may be spaced by a grooved intermediate shell. In these constructions the shells may be of a composition consisting of polystyrol and tricresyl phosphate, with or without natural shellac, or the composition may be a mixture of polyvinyl acetate and triphenyl phosphate. As shown in Fig. 5, a suspension insulator comprises several shells, consisting of screw-threaded sleeves 1 witli skirts B, which are screwed into one another and to suspension means D, E, as shown. Fig. 6 shows another construction in which a number of shells, comprising sleeves 1 and skirts B, are mounted on a support E to form a supporting insulator, the sleeves either being closed at one end and screwing into one another or being open at both ends and screwing on an insulating tube F, as shown respectively at the left and right hand sides of the Figure.
