Abstract
407,909. Washing gas. WAGNER, F. H., The Tuscany, Stony Run Lane, Baltimore, U.S.A. June 21, 1932, No. 17559. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 2, 1932]. [Class 55 (ii).] In separating dust and fumes from gas, e.g. blast furnace gas, the gas is divided into several small streams and each is subjected to a centrifugal dry dust separation ; the streams are joined and the gas is sprayed with moisture, redivided, further saturated, and cooled, e.g. by interchange of heat between the gas and liquid to be sprayed. Gas enters at 33 an annular chamber 32 and passes centrifugally down slotted tubes 35 each with a spiral baffle, dust being expelled into surrounding chambers and collected at the bottom 28 of the casing in water which is maintained at constant level and may be continuously clarified. Gas rises through a central chamber 15 with steam or liquid sprays 63 of desired temperature and passes through a chamber 22 and down tubes 74 with sprays 77 preferably of low temperature. The gas passes over the water 26 and up adjacent tubes 75 with cold sprays 77, to the outlet 24. The tubes 74, 75 may have connected jackets 89 in which the water for the sprays 63 is heated indirectly by the gas. Each pair of tubes is enclosed by vertical baffles 82, and each tube has internal vertical baffles 106.
