Abstract
407,534. Tar. TOOBY, C. F., 1103, Foleshill Road, and LANGFORD, P. N., 970, Foleshill Road, Coventry. March 28, 1933, No. 9264. [Class 55 (ii).] To maintain the viscosity of tar escaping from the seal of a waterless gas holder, it is heated prior to its return to the seal in contact with a stream of gas. The tar is conveyed by a pipe e to a tank c where it is heated by steam coils l and treated by bubbling gas just below the tar surface through the perforated head o of a pipe m ; or the gas may be passed over the surface of the tar. The gas is then returned to the gas holder and the tar passed through a tank f to a tank g containing a float h operating a spindle j to put in action pumps which raise the tar through a pipe k to the top of the gas holder. The gas may be preheated by passage through a steam jacket n and the tar may be preheated by steam coils arranged in the tar dam at the base of the holder.
