406,838. Lathes for turning ingots &c. CRAVEN BROS. (MANCHESTER), Ltd., Reddish, Stocliport, and RIVERS, J. H., Springfield, Altrincham Road, Gatley, both in Cheshire. Dec. 5, 1932, No. 34374. [Class 83 (iii).] In a lathe for turning non-circular ingots c or like bodies the drive from the work spindle to the cams e controlling the transverse movement of the tool k includes means for varying the timing of the cam with respect to the work spindle while the machine is running. The cams e act through a lever f and roller h on a table i, pivoted at j to a longitudinal slide and are driven by gearing, Fig. 3, from the headstock, this gearing including worm gearing w, x. The worm spindle v is movable axially by worm gearing from a handwheel 10, thus rotating the wheel x and so altering the t:ming of the cams e relative to the work. Preferably two tools are arranged on a common saddle m and are maintained at the correct cutting angle by known gearing including lever mechanism 11, 12. British Specification 313,264, [Class 83 (i)], and Austrian Specification 101,173 are referred to.
