Abstract

406,637. Flywheels. INGERSOLLRAND CO., 15, Exchange Place, Jersey City, New Jersey, U.S.A. May 24, 1932, No. 14696. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Sept. 2, 1933]. [Class 122 (i).] Relates to devices for damping torsional vibrations in shafts such as crank shafts, propellor shafts of marine or aircraft plants. The element P is connected to an internalcombustion engine cramk shaft E by resilient connection comprising a flanged shaft H and a flanged tubular member F extending into a recess in the end of the shaft. Fixed between the connected flanges of the member F and the crankshaft is a flange member m carrying pins w which operate plungers b adapted to reciprocate in bores in the element P. The plungers b as they reciprocate tend to pump oil through ports e, a groove f in the element P and a passage p in the flange member m into and out of a reservoir t. The member m is provided with a flange j having a wearing ring k on which the body P rides : The effective weight of the body P may be varied by means of a removable rim S. Needles u adjust the resistance to flow through ports e.
