Abstract

405,962. Dry closets. JACKSON, E. L., 34, High Holborn, London, and CHRISTOPHER, S. A., 52, Meadway, High Barnet, Hertfordshire. July 12, 1932, No. 19721. [Class 26.] A closet, particularly a chemical closet, of the kind in which a receptacle for sewage is arranged within a casing provided with a seat adapted to be raised and preferably also with a lid has a shield below the seat extending round the receptacle and over the space between the walls of the receptacle and the walls of the casing, a downwardly extending flange being formed on the shield to engage frictionally with the walls of the casing to prevent accidental displacement of the shield. A receptacle 1 is arranged in a casing 2 having a hinged seat 9 and a hinged lid 12. A shield comprising a downwardly sloping portion 6 and a flange 7 entering the receptacle 1 extends round the receptacle and covers the space between the receptacle and the casing. The shield extends over the casing and is kept from accidental displacement by the frictional engagement of a downwardly extending flange 8 with the wall of the casing. On the rear side a recess is provided in the shield and the flange 8 is cut away to provide a clearance for the hinged connection between the seat and a batten 10. The casing has a tubulure 3 connected to a draught or ventilating pipe and holes 4 preferably provided with flap valves or shutters are provided adjacent the base of the casing on the side remote from the tubulure. A space may be left between the shield and the walls of the receptacle so that the air drawn in through the holes 4 may pass over the receptacle.
