Abstract
405,645. Propellent and blasting cartridges; esplosives. HODGE, D., 39, Tudor Gardens, West Acton, IGNATIEFF, A., 34, Singleton Scarp, Woodside Park, and CARDOX (GREAT BRITAIN), Ltd., 20, Copthall Avenue, all in London. July 29, 1932, No. 21470. [Classes 9 (i) and 9 (ii).] Relates to cartridges containing a condensed gas such as carbon dioxide, and consists in providing within the cartridge a fluid body capable of being heated and adapted to impart heat or both heat and pressure to the charge of condensed gas to cause the disruption of the cartridge. The cartridge 1 may have a rupturable disc 2 at one end and a screw plug 13 at the other end. The fluid body may be contained in a part of the cartridge 1 next the screw plug 13 and divided from the rest by a valve or a rupturable wall, or it may be contained in a chamber 4 at or around the side of the wall or in the centre as shown in Fig. 1, and extending about half the length of the cartridge. The fluid body may consist of helium or of a mixture of nitrous oxide, oxygen, or air and ethane, ethylene, benzene, acetylene, carbohydrates, alcohols, ethers, or hydrogen, and may be compressed to the liquid state. The components of the mixture may be in separate containers adapted to be broken by a rod arranged as in Specification 386,688, the interaction of the components bringing about the disruption of the cartridge. Or the fluid body may be heated or fired by an electric device 11 or mechanically as in Specification 386,688 aforesaid.
