Abstract
404,648. Pastry cutters. OWEN, H., 60, St. Aubyn Street, Devonport. July 12, 1932, No. 19689. [Class 87 (ii).] A pastry cutter for cutting blanks for tarts in a single operation comprises an outer cutter A and an inner cutter B, which does not cut so deeply into the pastry as the cutter A, and a spring controlled plate L adapted to slide within the inner cutter against the pressure of the spring, the plate serving to depress the area of pastry enclosed by the inner cutter to form the well of the tart during the cutting operation and to detach the tart blank from the cutters at the completion of the cutting operation. The cutters may be in the form of cylinders closed at one end and secured to one another by a screw threaded tube C on the closed end of the cutter B engaging a screw threaded hole in the closed end of the cutter A. The plate L is connected by a helical spring S to a plate K of equal diameter, the plate K being mounted in the cutter B by means of a screwed rod F on the plate K engaging the tube C which is also threaded internally. The depth of the well may be varied by adjusting the screw-threaded parts. A number of pins P are secured at right angles to the plate K ; the pins pass through corresponding holes H in the plate L and assist in depressing the area of pastry inside the inner cutter during the cutting operation whilst pricking the pastry to prevent it rising in the same proportion as the outer ring. In a modification the plate K is made integral with the closed end of the cutter B.
