Abstract
404,438. Stapling box ends. NICKLIN, J. B., Lindencroft, near Evesham, Worcestershire. Nov. 21, 1932, No. 32808. [Class 89 (iii).] Relates to the manufacture of crates of the type in which the sides and bottom are hingedly attached to each other by pairs of interengaging staples, and to apparatus for making such crates in which the sides &c. are clamped in face to face relationship to receive the staples. According to the invention, the sides are clamped between jaws 15, 16 and the ends thereof abut on a guide block 32 having a pair of staple guides 33, 34 at right angles to each other, through which the punches operate. The jaw 15 is fixed, while the jaw 16 is movable to clamp the box sides. Stops 53, 54 are provided on the faces of the jaws 15, 16 for positioning the crate sides. A cam 24 operated by a handle 26 controls the movement of the jaw 16. The punches are manually operated and counterweighted to facilitate their retraction after the stapling operation.
